Tara updates!

Tara’s been held hostage by the MAN lately (day job, ewwwww) and so hasn’t been able to make it to the last few Studio Sundays :( Nevertheless, she steams forward with new work and exciting news!

First up is her recent Milwaukee Gallery Day/ Night at the Caggio gallery:

New work alongside The She-Bear (below) for my show at Caggio. Some of the work I’m not entirely happy with but working on these definitely got me back into the swing of traditional media! Hurray for watercolor!!! From top to bottom: Meeting the Black Dog, White Fox Wedding, Sedna, The Nightingale, and The Golden Stag.

And also, Tara’s Yoyo necklaces have been featured in Country Living magazine! They super cute, so go get some!

My green and blue plaid yo-yo necklace has been featured in Country Living Magazine!!! It is in the November issue article called “Mad About Plaid.” It’s kinda strange opening up a magazine and seeing something that you’ve made… right there. In a magazine. So now I’m selling a whole bunch of yo-yo necklaces and spending my days creating new ones. If you’re interested, check out my Etsy store!

APE Recap!

Our time at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco was amazing. AMAZING.

The pre-show mixer was held at the Last Gasp Books HQ, which was a deligtfully strange place filled with an endless collection of eccentric… things. These pictures barely do the office any justice, but you get the idea:

Last Gasp's lounge -- wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor, this place was packed with awesome oddities!

Last Gasp was the perfect place to host the APE mixer, since they opened their stockroom to everyone who showed up! They have a great selection of books for sale back there!

We were shooed out of the building at 9pm, with staff exclaiming "It's legal to drink on the sidewalk outside!" behind us. We took their word for it, and festivities continued.

Thus concludes our adventures at APE 2009. We met a lot of wonderful people there and got involved in a fantastic community of small-press publishers, independent comic distributors and artists from around the globe — you’ll most likely see us exhibiting there next year, as well!

Celebrate Banned Books Week!

bks

We here at Studio Sunday are BIG supporters of the First Amendment, so Banned Books Week is right up our celebratory alley!

All of the members at Studio Sunday grew up reading some of the books that have been challenged over the years, and we firmly believe that the first step to building your imagination is to read everything you can get your hands on!

Check out the website and see what you can do, or to participate in what your community is planning to do!

Support imaginations. Support broadened horizons. Support READING!

Studio Sunday goes to APE!

gview

Studio Sunday is exhibiting at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco this October! We will be publishing books by Jackie Steffen, Brent Bublitz, Topher MacDonald, Heidi Scwartz and Pietro Norante through a sister project we’ve been working on: Lovesick Robot Press.

If you’re in the area, come and say hi to us at booth #414 and check out the other awesome exhibitors! The books will also be made available for sale on the LSR Press website, so if you can’t make it to APE we’ll still have delicious readin’ materials waiting for you :D

Keep an eye on the Lovesick Robot homepage for more information about our appearance at APE!

En Closing show, Thanks!

en poster

Last night was the closing show for “The Legend of En”. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported us in our efforts in bringing this installation to the Milwaukee art scene. Special thanks goes out to the amazing crew at the Borg Ward. Their unwavering support made this show possible.

We would also like to thank our sponsors The Bomb shelter bar and the Sparrow Collective, as well as our pivate donors for their material and financial support. We love you all.

Studio Sunday already has more projects in the works, including a ninja like infiltration of the APE expo in San Fran. OK… well.. we paid for a table, so it’s not really an infiltration.. but they still have no idea what they are in for. Does anyone know how to get a 4 foot wide aluminum robot head on a plane as a carry-on? No?

Just one more, Brent…..

In celebration of a successful show and increasing amounts of commission work, Jackie’s “death star” computer got a third monitor tonight.
